Simply the Best! Merewether beach was crowned the "best city beach" in Australia for 2018.
Merewether Beach is part of a beach reserve that stretches from Dixon Park in the north to Burwood Beach in the south - with superb views in all directions - for endless photo opportunities.
The quintessential Australian beach. Where locals enjoy a coffee at a beachside cafe, walk their dog and parents juggle caffeine and kids with sandy hair and the surfers' roll-up by the dozen.
But such an enormous stretch you wont get lost in the crowd.

Walk a bit further down the beach promenade, and you'll find Merewether Ocean Baths, the largest Ocean Baths complex in the southern hemisphere.
You can have up to 20 people (the 2 of you and 18 guests) at your ceremony.
Rain. Now it doesn't happen often, but when it does you will need to shelter under trees or bring umbrellas - how romantic - and there is also some small shelters available beachside.
As there is no longer a marriage registry office in Newcastle, this location is a much better option than the government run office anyway!

Merewether Beach is located just off 5 Henderson Road, Merewether, Newcastle.
There is street parking and parking areas located close by. BUT on any beautiful day it is always going to be popular, so please allow plenty of time to park and arrive at the meeting point, in front of Merewether Beachhouse.
Merewether Beach is located about 2.5 hours north of Sydney by car. What a great place to have a weekend away and get married.

Merewether Beach is part of the City of Newcastle Council. Generously, the City of Newcastle permits small marriage ceremonies to take place in their park - without the requirement to reserve or pay for the use of the park.
We will provide a small table for you to stand at and sign your Marriage Certificate, after your ceremony.
City of Newcastle Council does not allow the throwing of rice, confetti, glitters, sprays, poppers, or streamers. Instead, you are encouraged to use more natural alternatives such as petals and/or bubbles. All petals must be removed after the ceremony. Synthetic petals are prohibited.
